Serving in a Retreat Centre is an amazing experience. You will be surrounded by friendly, caring and enthusiastic guests and staff all year. You will try new things and meet people from around the world. Serving in a Retreat and Conference Centre can sometimes carry varying hours and requires a good amount of flexibility. Guest stay with us throughout your employment and we must carry basic responsibility 24 hours a day. It is hard work, but the rewards and memories you take away from the experience make it the best job in the world!

Wilderness Edge provides all staff with staff shirts that must be worn during the day until after dinner. Your personal appearance is important and we ask that you remember that you are a role model for children and young adults. You may dress according to your activity with shorts and footwear if working outside, and jeans and sneakers for indoor work. Special footwear, aprons, hairnets or protective gear may need to be worn for safety purposes depending on your job description.

Our food is restaurant quality. We mean it! Each year our trained kitchen professionals provide meals and snacks that have been growing our guest counts from 2,000 to 25,000 in just 8 short years. Our guests complement us daily on how delicious the meals are. All three meals have a wide variety of choices available. We have an extensive salad bar at lunch and supper and offer soup every lunch. We understand that for you to be a successful employee, you will need to have time off to relax and enjoy leisure time. You will receive 1 to 3 days off each week and in addition, you receive several days off during the course of the year to take advantage of our great location in the Whiteshell. We encourage our staff to take advantage of our wonderful facility during their time off; that includes hiking trails, bikes, canoes, games areas, large theatre and high speed wireless internet access.

While we will provide you with specific contract detail with the exact specifics during the interview process, but in general, our monthly wages for full time employees range from $1,600 to $3,200 per month depending on hours worked and the level of responsibility and experience. Keep in mind that living at camp is an expense free experience and that our staff receives staff shirts, a private room, most meals, cable TV, Internet access and laundry service.

Wilderness Edge is a smoke free facility. We do not tolerate smoking in or near building property and we discourage smokers from applying. Staff members are expected to behave responsibly and follow all Federal and Provincial laws as they relate to drug use and the consumption of alcohol. Staff under the age of 18 are not permitted to consume alcohol and no staff member is allowed to drink on camp or return to camp under the influence. The Internet service that we provide is filtered to provide access to only materials that are deemed appropriate for an all ages environment.

Our guests are made up from local, national and international spots every year. With visitors from over 50 countries we have stopped keeping track of the various places people seek us out and our reputation as great hosts have traveled throughout the globe.

Our largest group of guests are Canadians with a sprinkling from the America's and Europe. We host a large population of church retreats and conferences, family gatherings, government conferences, school and student retreats and various charities and related organizations.

Wilderness Edge is located in Pinawa, Manitoba about 1 hours from Winnipeg and 1 hour 10 minutes from Steinbach.

The majority of our staff live within our staff hallway located on the lower level in the west wing. Our newly renovated rooms are relatively spacious and airy. Every room has a TV, Bed, electricity, private shower, toilet, and sinks. Wireless Internet is generally avalilable in all our staff rooms.

A retreat centre is a terrific place to spend a year. You will have the opportunity to spend your time working inside, outside, meeting new people and making long lasting friendships.

What makes us different from most other Conference centres is that even though we are a business, we set aside about 50% of our room space annually for assisting charity and christian organizations. We do not hold a liquor licence and have a very different mentality than 95% of those in the conference centre business. Our Father-Son business owners believe in promoting a family friendly atmosphere centered around the time honoured old fashioned ideas of service and value. You will not find any short term, socially harmful cash grabs here.
